While expecting your package from Temu, one of the most common tracking statuses you will see is “In Transit.”
There are different sub-sections under this update, which might explain why you see it for several days before the item can get to you.
Our Today’s guide aims to clarify the meaning, why your item is stuck there, and what you can do about it.
What Does Temu “In Transit” Mean?
This Temu tracking status means that the package has been handed over to a carrier and is going to the recipient.
Under normal circumstances, a Temu package stays “in transit” for between 2 and 20 days before it gets to the recipient.
5 Common Temu Tracking Statuses Under “In Transit” And Their Meanings
What Does “Flight Departure” Mean On Temu?
This Temu tracking status means that the plane in which your package is at has left the originating country, and is on its way toward the destination country.
Since such a package is already moving, it’s the primary reason why Temu classifies it under “In Transit.”
Unfortunately, we have had Temu packages that were under “Flight departure” take longer than expected to get to us and we will describe this in detail in a short while below.
What Does “Package Arrived At Airport” Mean On Temu?
This Temu tracking status means that the flight with your package has reached the destination country’s airport.
Under most circumstances, it comes under “customs clearance completed”.
When you get this status, it doesn’t take more than a business day before the local last-mile carrier company in your package picks up the item.

When this tracking status occurs under “In transit,” it means that X-raying the item won’t be enough to make it clear through Canadian customs, and will have to go through further inspection before it gets allowed.
Mostly, weapon-like packages get this scan. It takes anywhere between 2 business days to a week before customs can release the package to enter Canada.
What Does “Package Received At The Facility” Mean When It Occurs Under “In Transit” In Temu?
This update means that after customs cleared the package, they handed it over to the last-mile carrier in the recipient’s country to process it for final delivery.
We realized that Temu uses this status when the customs hands over the package to OnTrac.
You can see this status several times in different cities before the package gets to you. For example, it could start at “Package received at the facility. Dayton, NJ” and then proceed to “Package received at the facility. Romulus Mi” after a day or two.
In that case, it means that such a package was received for initial processing in Dayton, and then got forwarded to Romulus, where it will be scanned for routing toward the destination address.
What Does Customs Clearance Completed Mean On Temu?
When Temu says “Customs clearance completed” for your package that they still say is “In transit,” it means that the customs in your country have allowed the package to enter the country.
It doesn’t take long before such a package gets handed over to the local last-mile carrier in your country.
Why Is My Temu Package Stuck On “In Transit” For Several Days?
Bad Weather Conditions
While your item might have departed the origin country, inclement weather conditions might prevent it from proceeding.
For example, if such a package had the last scan as “Flight departure,” it could be that the plane had already left the originating country and when it reached the recipient country, faced inclement weather conditions.
In that case, it means that it will be impossible for them to offload the packages and take them for customs clearance until it’s clear enough.
Depending on how long it takes for the weather to be great for offloading purposes, several days might pass, which explains why your package might stay stuck “In transit” for longer than expected.
Backed Up Facilities
This mostly starts from the customs offices in the destination country.
Now, if these facilities are overwhelmed by backlogs, it means that it will take some time before your package gets subjected to clearance.
Since Temu classifies anything under “Customs” to be around “In transit,” this is the scan they will use even when your package sits on a huge pile of packages before clearance happens.
Another classic example is when Temu has handed over your package to the last-mile carrier in your country but they are swamped.
In that case, the number of days it will take for that courier to clear their backlogs and scan the package to continue with its journey plays a vital role in when the tracking status will move from “In transit” to “Out for delivery.”
Bugged Tracking
Temu’s tracking page is prone to technical glitches, especially in peak shopping times, such as around the Chinese New Year, Christmas, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday.
In those moments, many recipients are tracking their items, which explains why the package might be stuck on “In Transit.”
We have had common scenarios where Temu packages went from “In transit” to “Out for delivery” or “Delivered”, and you can describe this to be an issue to do with bugged tracking.
If your Temu package status takes more than a week to move from one update to another, we recommend using free Third-party tracking sites such as Parcelsapp and 17Track to get the right status of your item.
Missed Scan
Depending on who Temu gave your package to complete the package, they might intentionally miss scanning the packages to save time.
In our article about the partnership between Temu and Supai Express, we mentioned that Supai Express sometimes doesn’t update the package statuses, and this is a result of missed scans as their measure to save time.
Many other last-mile delivery companies don’t also scan packages as frequently as expected, which means the issue of missed scans is a common one.
If your Temu order is stuck on “In transit,” it could be because they didn’t scan it across each part of its journey. Missed scans are the second reason we recommend you rely more on Third-party package tracking sites than Temu or their carriers.
How Long Does “In Transit” Take On Temu?
It takes between 2 to 20 business days for Temu tracking to update from “In transit” to “Out for delivery”.
The primary reason why it takes this long is that there are many other different tracking statuses under “In transit,” which means it is a general update with finer updates on the package’s journey and date.
In any case, there is no cause for panicking unless the estimated delivery date has passed and the package is still in transit.
If Temu delivers later than expected, you are entitled to a $5 credit if you had chosen the Standard shipping option and $13 credit if you had gone for the Express shipping option.
