What Does Leaving From Departure Country/Region Mean On AliExpress?
When AliExpress says that your package is leaving from departure country or region, it means that a vehicle carrying a package is ready to depart from the sender’s region or country.
One of the most common departure regions while using AliExpress is Hong Kong. When AliExpress talks about the departure country, they mean that your package has left China.
After this update, AliExpress uses the term left from departure country/region, and then “Arrived In Transit Country or Region” to indicate that the package is still on its way in an intermediate territory toward your country.
Why Is My AliExpress Package Stuck On “Leaving From Departure Country/Region” For Days? 5 KEY Reasons
Lack Of Scanning
While your package might have left the departure country or region and ended up in the transit country, a lack of scanning might happen.
It could be a case of an accidentally missed scan or the staff in the transit country failing to scan your package as a measure of saving time that would otherwise have been spent on scanning such packages.
When there is no scan, it means that there won’t be any update on the tracking page.
Funny enough, we have had instances where packages that left the departure country ended up showing up without any new update on the tracking page. No customs clearance update, no handover to the local couriers, etc.
The Package Wasn’t Routed Efficiently
For international packages such as those getting shipped from China, they have to go through transit countries for proper routing.
See, since there are mostly not enough packages to warrant direct flights from China or Hong Kong to the recipient’s country, AliExpress has to pass packages through transit countries where they will be sorted to be sent along with others heading to the recipient’s country.
The problem at this point is that routing errors happen where a package might end up in the wrong transit country, where it can’t get connected to others heading to your country.
In such a scenario, AliExpress has to re-route such packages to the right transit country for the journey to proceed.
Whenever the case of the wrong transit country happens, there won’t be any relevant tracking update, making the status of your package stay stuck on “Leaving from departure country or region” for long.
The problem is even worse when AliExpress discovers late that the package ended up in the wrong transit country. By the time the sorting and re-routing happens, we might be talking about several weeks of delays here.

Holiday In The Transit Country
When packages get held up due to holidays, the situation can be dire, especially due to backlogs.
For example, if your package leaves the departure country or region and ends up showing up in the transit country amid a holiday, it means that there won’t be staff to inspect, sort, and route it as expected.
The situation is more disheartening when the transit country’s import facilities undergo backlogs.
By the time the packages in that plane get a scan that they reached there, it might end up taking longer than expected for the status to move.
Inclement Weather
Bad weather is one of the leading reasons why packages are delayed, and it is another reason applicable here.
While a plane might have left the departure region or country perfectly, weather can change unexpectedly before scanning happens in the transit country.
In that scenario, the skies have to be clear first before the staff works on those packages.
Due to inclement weather, you can expect the package status to stay stuck on that update for several days.
The Package Was Confiscated
While packages in transit countries or regions don’t undergo customs clearances, inspections still happen.
If yours needs further inspection, the staff in the transit country might set it aside for further checks before releasing it to continue with its journey.
If such a package is prohibited in that country, they will confiscate it.
AliExpress will likely not update the tracking page until the checks are over in these two circumstances.
What Do I Do When My Package Is Stuck On “Leaving From Departure Country / Region” For Long?
Be More Patient
When your parcel is stuck on this status, we recommend that you be more patient.
There have been little to no incidents of such packages getting lost completely, so you shouldn’t panic.
Use A Third-party Tracking Service
Free Third-party tracking services such as 17Track provide finer details about where packages are, and you can use them to help you know the exact status of your package.
When the package is properly on its way, they will tell you that it’s “In transit” and you should be more patient.
Contact The Sender
We mostly recommend contacting the sender when your package has been delayed past AliExpress’s guaranteed delivery date or the sender’s estimated delivery date.
Letting them know is a way to let them know that the delay has become too much and you are down for a replacement package or a refund.
