While expecting a package from Australia Post, one of the most common tracking statuses is, “It’s on its way.”
Under this update, there are many more tracking statuses, which should tell you that this is a general one.
The problem is that before the package gets to you, you will see the update for several days.
What does it mean? Is there anything I could do to make my package get to me faster? For those and other finer details, let’s get to it right away.
What Does It Mean When Auspost Says “It’s On Its Way?”
When Australia Post tells you that your package is on its way, it means that it’s moving through the delivery network until it reaches the recipient.
The tracking status, “it’s on its way” starts immediately after the package is received by Australia Post and processed.
Common Tracking Statuses Under “It’s On Its Way” And Their Meanings
Item Processed At Facility
When Australia Post talks about “item processed at facility” it means that the package was received at one of the processing facilities for scanning and rightful sorting to continue with its journey toward the recipient.
Before a package gets to you, it might undergo several “processed at facility” scans.
Such processing facilities include sorting centers, distribution hubs, and AusPost package warehouses.
We talked more about this tracking scan in detail in a separate blog post and you can read more there.
In Transit To Next Facility
When Australia Post says that your package is in transit to the next facility, it means that it’s on its way to another processing facility.
Among the primary reasons why AusPost says that a package is ‘in transit to next facility’ is that it is going for sorting in a facility near the recipient.
We delved deeper into this tracking update and elaborated on why your package might be stuck on this status.
Transferred
If the latest update on your tracking page shows that your package was “transferred,” it means that it was taken to another processing facility for faster sorting.
You could see this status appearing on more than one occasion, which means that the next processing facility was backed up so, AusPost had to transfer the package further to another one that could offer faster sorting.

Arrived At Facility
When AusPost says that your package “arrived at facility,” it means that it’s inside the processing facility, where it will be sorted for the continuation of its journey toward the recipient.
Under most circumstances, this tracking status comes after “Transferred” or “In Transit To Next Facility” and your package can get this scan for one or more times before it gets delivered to you.
Delayed – Waiting To Be Processed For Delivery
This update means that your package took longer to be processed in a facility. Under most circumstances, Australia Post packages that get this scan end up getting delayed when it comes to the final delivery.
Is There Anything I Could Do When My Package Is Stuck On, “It’s On Its Way” For Days?
If your package keeps oscillating between different statuses under “it’s on its way” for multiple days and it’s already past the guaranteed delivery date, we recommend that you contact the sender right away.
Since the sender is responsible for ensuring that you get your package on time, they should be able to send you a replacement package or a refund when AusPost delays it past the guaranteed delivery date.
We don’t recommend calling Australia Post as they will most likely won’t help you as the recipient. See, you aren’t contracted to them, but the sender.
If the tracking lingers under “it’s on its way” but it’s not past the delivery date, we urge you to be more patient as AusPost will most likely deliver it to you in good time.
If you would love to learn more about what is happening to your package while under the ‘on its way’ status, you can also use third-party tracking sites such as 17Track and Parcelsapp to get finer details about the real status of your package.
