So you live in a gated community, are expecting a package getting delivered by Canada Post, and you are happy that your delivery has been effected.
You happily rush to your mailbox to pick up your parcel but as ill luck would have it, it’s not there. You go checking around your house and can’t seem to find it, too.
When Canada Post says delivered to community mailbox and you can’t find your package, don’t worry. It’s a common occurrence we have noted – if that makes you feel easier, LOL!
So, first things first…
Canada Post Says Delivered To Your Community Mailbox Meaning
When Canada Post indicates that they have delivered a package to a community mailbox, they mean that they have safely kept it in your private parcel locker, or they have left the key to the larger parcel locker for you to conveniently pick up your package.
4 Reasons Why Canada Post Says Delivered To Community Mailbox But Not Received
If you haven’t found your parcel in your mailbox or the key to the larger mailbox, these are the reasons:
The Postie Forgot To Keep The Parcel Locker Key In Your Box
If yours was a larger parcel that couldn’t fit in your regular mailbox, the postie might have kept it in the larger parcel locker.
When they do so, it’s expected that they leave the key to that parcel locker in your mailbox.
Posties are only human, and they can forget to keep that key in your mailbox, which is genuinely disheartening for you – the recipient. While that’s understandable in most circumstances, it’s not for recipients expecting time-sensitive packages, and as such, it would be best if they acted keener.
In some other incidents, the posties might end up leaving the keys in a different mailbox. The problem at that point is when the owner of the said mailbox picks it up and never lets you know about it.

The Package Ended Up In Someone Else’s Mailbox
There are tons of mailboxes in communities, and it’s easy for Posties to end up keeping packages in other people’s mailboxes.
The problem at this point is when the owner takes too long to open their mailbox, or when they keep such packages to themselves.
What’s even worse is that the recipient might be anxious all that while, when in reality their package is just sitting at a random mailbox.
The Package Was Delivered To The Wrong Community Mailbox
If your gated community has a somewhat similar name to another or a different carrier came around, it’s possible for them to get confused and leave your package in the wrong community mailbox.
Depending on how long it takes for Canada Post to know of this mishap, it might take longer than expected to find your package.
The Package Was Wrongly Marked As Delivered
There is an emerging trend where some Canada Post carriers are marking packages as delivered when they are not, especially when they are behind on packages from the previous business day.
In reality, your package might be in a truck on its way to your community mailbox, with the driver targeting to complete that delivery before the day ends. In as much as some staff want to make it appear as though their delivery dates are as what they promise, it’s unethical and disappointing to most recipients.
What Should I Do When Canada Post Says Delivered To Community Mailbox But No Package?
Leave A Note To The Carrier In Your Box
This method worked for me like a charm when I wrongly had the “delivered to community mailbox”.
I taped a note vertically inside my mailbox with the intention that the carrier would see it when he opened the front panel. When I went to check the next morning, I found the key to the larger parcel locker and picked up my package.
We love calling such paper a “Letter to the Carrier.”
Contact Canada Post
While Canada Post isn’t as helpful to the recipients (you are not their client anyway, but the sender’s), contacting them is helpful at times like in this incident.
When you let them know that your package wasn’t found in the community mailbox as the tracking page shows, they will follow up with the postie to ensure that it’s retrieved and handed over to you.
Get In Touch With The Sender
If Canada Post sends you back to the sender or doesn’t seem to help, you might need to let the shipper know what went wrong and they will open up an investigation with Canada Post.
If the delay gets too much, you might opt to tell them to send you a replacement package or a refund. Of course, you can always opt to file a chargeback if they ignore your request.
You are their client and they are responsible for ensuring that your parcel gets delivered to your preferred spot.
