You are expecting a package from UPS and in a few moments, you see “Attempted delivery.”
You are there scratching your head wondering how they managed to attempt a delivery yet you were home the whole day or the CCTV cameras in your home didn’t capture any of such moments.
Does that sound familiar? Well, as UPS recipients, most of us have been there.
In today’s ultimate guide, we will look at what the entire topic entails. Be our guest today.
What Does It Mean When UPS Attempted Delivery?
When the tracking page shows attempted delivery, it means that a UPS driver tried to make a delivery to you but due to there being no one available to pick it up, they didn’t complete it.
However, this isn’t applicable to every other day. As we have noticed over time, there are times when UPS says they attempted delivery when they actually didn’t.
Such scenarios have been inconveniencing to the recipients as we expect the delivery agents to do what they are rightfully paid to do – attempt deliveries.

Which Are The True Reasons Why UPS Says Attempted Delivery?
You Live In A Gated Community
If you live in a gated community, it might be hard for UPS delivery drivers to make it to your door.
When the driver calls you from the gate and you take so long to appear and pick up your package, they might use the “attempted delivery” status. In that case, they attempted the delivery, but it was on the recipient for not showing up when they knew delivery agents couldn’t make it to their doorsteps.
There Is A Dangerous Dog In Your Home
For their safety, most delivery agents won’t try to access your home and make deliveries when dangerous dogs are roaming around.
What we have noticed in such cases is that after UPS indicates attempted delivery, they take such packages to Access Points for the recipients to pick them up from there.
Why Does The UPS Tracking Page Say They Attempted Delivery When They Didn’t?
The Package Was Loaded In The Wrong Truck
Incidents such as packages getting loaded onto the wrong trucks happen with every other courier company and the UPS isn’t an exception.
When your driver sees on his DIAD that he had a package making it to you and realizes that it wasn’t in his vehicle, they may decide to leave you a notice asking you to schedule a redelivery.
The only problem we have with such drivers at this point is when they scan the parcel to have had an attempted delivery when that wasn’t the case.
Lazy Driver
We have had incidents where some lazy UPS drivers card packages and claim to have attempted delivery when they didn’t.
In fact, one of the social users confirmed that on one of the occasions, camera footage showed a driver leaving a notice under the door claiming to have attempted a delivery when they didn’t come with the package in the first place.
Of course, this amounts to dishonesty on the driver’s part, and while they enjoy some sort of protection from the union to some extent, some of the drivers get fired for such gross misconduct.
If you have some video footage showing any of the drivers doing such, reporting them to UPS is your best bet.
In other classic examples of dealing with lazy drivers, we have seen incidents where such delivery agents take all the signature required packages and take them to UPS access points for recipients to pick them up. The sad bit is that they claim to have made delivery attempts when they didn’t.
Mis-scanning
Scanning errors happen all the time and one of the most common is where UPS says that they attempted delivery when they actually didn’t.
Some recipients have had incidences where UPS had said that they had made delivery attempts, but then the packages ended up showing up before making any redelivery plans.
Some Recipients Aren’t Attentive Enough
Of course, we can’t blame the United Parcel Service for every other delay.
It happens sometimes that the drivers knock and knock without any response from the owners.
The worst bit is when the drivers can see the owners through the windows but they won’t have the doors opened probably due to the recipients being busy on their laptops or whatever.
Ideally, if you have an upcoming NDA package, it would be best to be attentive enough when your parcel is out for delivery. Otherwise, your UPS driver can knock on your door several times without you knowing it.
What Do I Do When UPS Says Attempted Delivery?
Contact The Sender
Since you are the sender’s customer, we recommend that you call them when UPS tells you that they attempted delivery when you can confirm that they didn’t.
Since the sender is in contract with UPS, UPS tends to prioritize them more than you, making it easy for senders to get solutions.
If, for whatever reason, the sender can’t solve the issue within the estimated delivery date, you can let them send you a replacement package or a refund.
What Do I Do For The Future?
We always recommend that our readers download the UPS APP and make an account there.
Once that gets done, they can then always sign for the packages on the APP and direct the drivers to where they can keep such packages.
In so doing, the issue of the attempted delivery is close to nil.
