When Canada Post takes longer than the expected date to deliver a package, they usually send “Item Delayed – Stay Tuned For Updates” on the tracking page.
What does this even mean? Will I ever receive this package?
For these and other details, let’s get to it right away.
What Does, “Item Delayed – Stay Tuned For Updates” Mean?
When Canada Post says, “Item delayed – stay tuned for updates,” it means that the recipient will get it past the estimated delivery date, and they should keep checking the tracking page for updates.
Why Is My Package Status Stuck On, “Item Delayed – Stay Tuned For Updates?”
Inclement Weather Conditions
Amid bad weather conditions, it’s unsafe for posties and packages to continue with their journey.
Since bad weather is beyond Canada Post’s control, they have to wait until it’s clear enough for packages to keep moving.
In such scenarios, recipients have to be more patient as their packages will still be delivered, albeit later on.
The Package Was Temporarily Lost
While Canada Post isn’t notorious for losing packages, they still temporarily lose them.
By the time such packages get retrieved and sorting for proper routing happens, several days might pass, which is why Canada Post will tell the recipient, “Item delayed – stay tuned for updates.”
Temporary loss of packages can happen where such packages end up getting delivered wrongly to community mailboxes, wrong addresses, or getting lost in the conveyor unit, especially for smaller-sized items.
The Sender Hasn’t Handed Over The Package To Canada Post Just Yet
Sometimes, senders create shipping labels days before handing packages to Canada Post.
The problem is that Canada Post sometimes wrongly claims to have picked up such packages.
As much as this is surprising and doesn’t make any sense, I have seen it happen to two of my packages where I noticed after contacting the sender, that they hadn’t shipped the said “delayed” packages to Canada Post.
From what I have gathered, these are technical glitches on the side of Canada Post even when they claim to have processed such packages.
Technical Hitches
While the tracking page might show that your item is delayed, it could be that there is a technical hitch on Canada Post’s tracking systems, while in the real sense, the package is in transit.
In one of my packages, it showed that a tracking label was created by Canada Post, and then two days later, Canada Post said “Item delayed – stay tuned for updates.”
Upon seeing such an update, it didn’t make any sense to me, so I reached out to the sender.
The sender confirmed the tracking details from their side and sent me a screenshot that my package was actually on the way.
Just like we said technical glitches are one of the leading reasons why your package tracking isn’t updating, it could also be the reason why they are wrongly saying that the package was delayed.
The Package Was Delivered to a Community Mailbox
If your package was supposed to get delivered to your local address and for whatever reason, the postie decided to keep it in a community mailbox, it could be the reason why they claim that the item was delayed, as confirmed by many recipients on social.
Upon reaching out to the sender or Canada Post, you may end up finding that the reason they offer for the delay doesn’t rhyme with any actual delay, and it’s a matter of the postie using the wrong scan.
What Do I Do When My Package Is Stuck On, “Item Delayed – Stay Tuned For Updates?”
Track Your Package Using Other Sites
We always recommend that recipients use Third-party tracking sites first before panicking whenever the tracking page shows incoherent statuses.
While the Canada Post’s tracking page might be showing that the item is delayed, it could be that it’s on its way or sitting in a community mailbox.
Third-party tracking sites such as 17Track and Parcelsapp are free to use and usually provide the finest details about when a package makes any journey.
If such sites confirm that your package is delayed past the estimated delivery date, you can then go for the next option below.
Contact The Sender
Since the sender is contracted to Canada Post to ensure that you receive your package as seamlessly as possible, they should be responsible for getting in touch with them should anything go out of expectation.
Contacting the sender is a way to have them keep Canada Post on its toes to prioritize your package where they have control over what is making it delayed.
Submit A Service Ticket On Canada Post
If the sender isn’t responsive enough or you’d rather deal with Canada Post than them, I recommend you submit a service ticket.
By so doing, Canada Post is put on notice that you need your package as soon as possible and they will prioritize delivering it as soon as possible.
In fact, according to Ainsley, he submitted a ticket for his package that was stuck on “Item delayed- stay tuned for updates” and it showed up the following day.
